Akihabara Electric Town Food Court

Inside any one of the hundreds of shopping malls in Akihabara are floors devoted to high end low priced restaurants that really gets busy at lunch time, we found this one early enough to get a booth without queueing.



We chose the Marinated Beef, Eryngii Mushrooms and Scallops in the shell for grilling, these came with Sweet Soy and Miso Soup.


The Beef had good depth of flavour and nice matured fat that melted and back flared for a nice smoky char.






Eryngii Shrooms are really good dense funghi, magic for grilling, these were good enough to be an acceptable meat substitute if needs must.






The Scallops came in the deeper side of the shell holding all the juices, but also with the skirts not just the coral attached. We normally just keep the muscle and coral, but OK let's see.


We debated sitting the Scallop in it's shell on to the grill and boil it in it's own juices, but I elected for removing them and getting some char on them also. If your left to your own devices to cook tabletop style, you might as well do what you know is best I think.


I wasn't convinced that I was missing anything be doing away with skirt of the Scallop in my normal prep for this, but wasn't bad really.


To sum up this was a fantastic meal and would dearly love to see these table top BBQ places to be everywhere at home.
