First meal in Tokyo

We found this little late night Gyoza joint on Asakusa Dori, it was our first night in the city and we were wondering how many places would be still serving food after 10pm in this daytime tourist location, but we needn't have been concerned as this bar operates 11am to 5am as do a great many others in the area in amongst all the 24hour places.

Great Gyoza and excellent Liver, Beansprout and Garlic Chive Stirfry, which seems to be a staple menu item in the little bars round here. The Stirfry comes as a set with Miso Soup, Lightly Pickled Vegetables and Rice to which we added house Sake for two plus Edamame. 2400 Yen all in wasn't too bad, but the price was elevated with the close proximity to Senso-ji Temple and being just up the street from the main Thunder Gate entrance.

The condiment set from left to right is Chilli Oil in the squeezy bottle, Rice Wine Vinegar, Soy Sauce and Garlic Paste in the little pot, again this was something we found in most of this type of eating place. Very good to be able to mix and match your dipping sauce in the little mini bowls provided. Also note the ashtray, smoking is fine at the table, but not outside unless you find one of the designated smoking areas with ashtray stands, normally outside most of the 7- Elevens. Smoke isn't a problem in the eateries though as the aircon fans are situated above each table as far as we experienced.

Ordering was very easy using the picture menus inside and outside their dishes were displayed as photo menus and in the imitation food cases, so you were very clear about what to expect inside.

Overall I would rate this meal as a fantastic taste of things to come.
